About K-9 Compass

Group of dogs

Hello! Thank you so much for reaching out to K‑9 Compass. It genuinely means the world to me, and you should be extremely proud of yourself — by being here, you’re taking real steps toward changing the future for countless dogs who might otherwise end up surrendered.

My name is Adam Murphy. I’m 21 years old and currently studying Veterinary Medicine in Warsaw. Over the years I’ve been shocked to learn that around 10 million dogs are surrendered to shelters every single year. I couldn’t stop asking myself why this was happening so often — and I knew there had to be reasons behind it.

As I dug deeper, I discovered that roughly 70% of owners who surrender their dogs to shelters say they chose their dog as a small, cute puppy… only to find out later that it grew into a large, energetic dog that needed far more attention, exercise, and shed far more than they ever expected. Another heartbreaking reason I found was people choosing so‑called “hypoallergenic” dogs, thinking it would solve allergy issues, only to discover that dander and proteins in saliva can still trigger reactions.

That’s when an idea started to grow in me: what if we helped people choose their dogs based on personality and needs instead of looks alone? If I could educate even a small number of people before they bring a dog home, maybe I could reduce the number of dogs being surrendered into shelters.

There are over 420 breeds of dogs in the world, and I truly believe there is a perfect match out there for everyone. That’s why I created K‑9 Compass. I’ve developed a questionnaire that helps me suggest four breeds that could fit your lifestyle. Over the past three years, I’ve been researching dog breeds extensively, and I genuinely believe I can help you find a furry companion that’s a great match for you — and a forever home for them.
